The fundraising organisations in Sweden have since a few of years a common council - the Swedish Fundraising Council. The 110 members of the council are the great fundraisers in Sweden such as the The Swedish Cancer society, Save the Children Sweden, Swedish Red Cross, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, PLAN Sweden and The Salvation Army. A number of handicap organisations are also members in the council.
The mission of the Swedish Fundraising Council is to promote ethical and professional fundraising and improve the conditions for fundraising through political lobbying and negotiating with commercial suppliers. Ethical questions related to fundraising are very important and the Swedish Fundraising Council has worked out standards and a code of conduct for the members. Our ”ethical package” includes three parts:
Education and training is another important task for professional fundraisers, both basic training and specialized/advanced. We organize seminars and congresses for our members.
The Swedish Fundraising Council also want to counterwork the “un-ethical” or “out of frame” fundraising in Sweden and does so by media contacts, an ”Ethical package” and by producing a list of fundraising outside of frame. Key words in ethical fundraising are: Respect, Openness, Trust and Quality
The work of the Swedish Fundraising Council is lead by eight people in a Board of Directors. Since a few years the Council has its own office which you are most welcome to contact if you have any questions. General Secretary for The Swedish Fundraising Council is Mr. Erik Zachrison, former Head of Fundraising at Amnesty International’s Swedish Section. Head of Training and Communications is Maria Ros Jernberg, previously PR and Values Manager with The Body Shop Sweden and with an extensive experience from the NGO sector. In Swedish the Swedish Fundraising Council is called: Frivilligorganisationernas Insamlingsråd - FRII
